Farm Story

Founded in 2009 by Sam Leadley and Jack VanDyke, Rising Pheasant Farms is an independently-owned and -operated urban farm on Detroit’s east side. RPF currently grows a variety of crops on 1/2 of an acre along with greenhouse micro-green production; sold to both retail and wholesale markets. In addition,  RPF manages 2 passive solar hoop houses for season extension purposes.  The farm operates based on a low-fossil fuel model, which includes organic/regenerative growing practices, no-till soil management and bicycle transportation. RPF works to increase fresh food access for the Detroit community, while supporting the land's ecological health and resilience.
